Ursuline Sisters Elaine Burke and Margaret Ann Aull delivered 11 blankets to St. Benedict’s Women and Family Services in Owensboro on March 9.
“We have people who sleep outside, they were in need of blankets,” said Jessie Schartung, program director.
For the past three years during Catholic Sisters Week, which is March 8-14, the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph have made blankets to donate to facilities supporting women in need. St. Benedict’s is a day shelter where women can shower, do laundry, utilize a clothes closet, and meet with a case worker. The staff will help them with medical cards, food stamps and make doctor appointments,
There is bible study, a life coach, job postings, and an effort for the women to support each other. St. Benedict’s also provides bus tokens for the women to travel to Crossroads, which is an overnight women’s shelter in Owensboro.
A post about the donation can be seen, along with posts from many other congregations, on the Catholic Sisters Week website: https://c4wr.org/catholic-sisters-week/.
