Scouts enter into Lenten journey by praying Stations of the Cross

BY SHERI BABBS, SPECIAL TO THE WESTERN KENTUCKY CATHOLIC

Scout Troop 2007, which is sponsored by St. Thomas More Parish in Paducah, prayed the Stations of the Cross in the parish’s Way of the Cross Garden on Feb. 20, 2026 to commemorate the first Friday of the Lenten journey.

This annual event led by scouts prepares the hearts of all who attend to follow Jesus through the days leading to the sadness of Good Friday and the celebration of Easter Sunday.

Each year, a scout from the troop uses lashings (poles or sticks tied together with rope) that they had learned from the Scouting Advancement Requirements to make a cross. Then the Scout Chaplain Assistant leads the prayers with a scout replying with a simple reflection at each Station.

Sheri Babbs is the chaplain for Troop 2007.
