Annual letters project spreads joy through school system
Editor’s note: The Western Kentucky Catholic recently completed a project with the journalism class at St. Mary High School in Paducah. Journalism teacher Melissa Reed, collaborating with WKC editor Elizabeth Wong Barnstead, assigned articles to five students, who each chose a topic at the school to write about, with the agreement that these articles would be published by the WKC. Please enjoy the articles by these student writers.

During St. Mary High School’s annual Catholic Schools Week, students write letters to faculty staff, parents and a classmate.
This is a project done by high school students to further spread the positivity of being a Christian community. St. Mary’s students and teachers receive letters from various students complimenting them or being kind to spread a little positivity throughout the week. This tradition started by Melissa Reed, one of St. Mary’s English and religion teachers, will continue, as it is a good way for students to show their appreciation.
These letters spread joy through the St. Mary School System.
