Suffice it to say the priest’s chalice is just as unique and different as the celebrant himself. There are so many varying shapes, sizes, messages, and other characteristics. That is why selecting a chalice can be very daunting for someone!
My chalice is an ordination gift from my mother and father, David and Alesia Grief. It was crafted in Spain and is made in the Romanesque style. It features the 12 apostles on the cup with their Latin names on the rim and the four evangelists on the base. This chalice is special to me because it reminds me of the apostle’s presence during the Last Supper and how the evangelists worked tirelessly to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ!
Each time I celebrate Mass with this beautiful chalice, I will remember the love and support from my family.
Deacon Christopher Grief will be ordained a priest of the Diocese of Owensboro on May 20, 2023, at St. Thomas More Parish in Paducah.
