St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Bardwell hosts Adoration for Corpus Christi on June 11. COURTESY OF WAYNE WILSON

St. Charles celebrates Corpus Christi 2023 with procession, Adoration

BY WAYNE WILSON, SPECIAL TO THE WESTERN KENTUCKY CATHOLIC

St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Bardwell in Carlisle County made a special effort to draw attention to the importance of the sacrament of the Eucharist on June 11, the feast of Corpus Christi.

Because our congregation is so small, we knew that having a Sunday afternoon or evening procession would not be well attended. We opted however to ask our faith community to come 15 minutes early before our normal 10:00 Mass time for a procession into church, followed by Benediction.

Fr. Chrispin Oneko began the celebration by incensing the monstrance, followed by a prayer and a scripture reading. The congregation, led by our cross bearer, then processed from the parish hall into the church for Benediction and Mass. Deacon James Morgan assisted Fr. Chrispin with the incense, and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus from the Msgr. Thompson Assembly in Fancy Farm stood as honor guard for the Holy Eucharist during the procession and during Benediction.

The liturgy was done with dignity and reverence in respect for the presence of the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist. This is the second year that we have held this service on Corpus Christi Sunday.
