On March 13, 2022, during the closing Mass for YOUTH 2000, Bishop William F. Medley instituted seminarian Conrad Jaconette into the Ministry of Lector.
This is the next step on Jaconette’s path of discernment of the diocesan priesthood.
Fr. Daniel Dillard, vocations director for the Diocese of Owensboro, said it was Jaconette’s idea to be instituted during YOUTH 2000, which is an annual youth retreat focused on bringing teens closer to the Eucharist.
Jaconette suggested doing it as a vocations-promoting initiative for the young people present, and after Fr. Dillard mentioned the idea to Bishop William F. Medley, the bishop responded, “I love it; let’s make it happen.”
The next vocations events on the diocese’s calendar will be the April 9 ordinations to the transitional diaconate of Chris Kight and Christopher Grief, and the July 2 ordination to the priesthood of Dcn. Martin Ma Na Ling.
Fr. Dillard said he was glad Jaconette made the suggestion about YOUTH 2000.
“As the youth of our diocese see a man making commitments and progressing through his vocational journey, I believe that it can plant seeds in the hearts of those young men and women to consider God’s call for their own life,” said Fr. Dillard.
