BY DCN. KEN BENNETT, OFFICE OF WORSHIP

This past September, the Office of Worship requested the annual Mass counts from the 78 parishes in the Diocese of Owensboro.

Below is a summary of the 2023 Mass counts data:

Number of registered parishioners – 49,336

Weekly average of Mass attendance – 23,434.75

2023 percent average – 47.5%

2022 percent average – 44.6%

Increase from prior year – 2.90%

For comparison, below is a summary of the 2019 Mass counts data, which was the last year before the COVID-19 pandemic began:

Number of registered parishioners (2019) – 50,435

Weekly average of Mass attendance (2019) – 26,019

2019 percent average – 51.59%

We are 4.09% under pre-pandemic percentages, but we are moving in the right direction.
